New Toy

I got a new camera so I thought I'd post new picks of the flowers. I'm still trying to figure out the camera, so I've been getting annoyed with it. Either the pics come out really, really good or they look like crap. I really wanted a DSLR, but I just can't bring myself to spend the money, so we got a Nikon L100. It's not bad for the money. Anyway, here are some of the good ones.

Poem by May Swenson

I saw two trees embracing.
One leaned on the other
as if to throw her down.
But she was the upright one.
Since their twin youth, maybe she
had been pulling him toward her
all that time,

and finally almost uprooted him.
He was the thin, dry, insecure one,
the most wind-warped, you could see.
And where their tops tangled
it looked like he was crying
on her shoulder.
On the other hand, maybe he

had been trying to weaken her,
break her, or at least
make her bend
over backwards for him
just a little bit.
And all that time
she was standing up to him

the best she could.
She was the most stubborn,
the straightest one, that's a fact.
But he had been willing
to change himself--
even if it was for the worse--
all that time.

At the top they looked like one
tree, where they were embracing.
It was plain they'd be
always together.

Too late now to part.
When the wind blew, you could hear
them rubbing on each other.

It's that time again!

The garden is in bloom, somewhat anyway. All the plants that I put in last year have already started to fill in the bed, so I don't think I'll need to get too many new plantings. Still need to find a spot for my small peach tree and the Japanese maple that we have. Don't really want to put any trees in the yard since we got a nice open space and plenty of nice shady spots to - kinda a nice mix. I've already managed to mistakenly pull out my black and blue salvia and a few of the tiger lily seeds that I planted last year. Hopefully, I left enough behind for me to enjoy. The compost has turned out really well - time to get more started.

My newest hydrangea bush in bloom

My lily and all her new babies.

My euphorbia, surprised to see it made it.

Dragons tongue in her glory.

Writing

So, I've started writing again. Just kinda writing whatever pops into my head, whether it sounds good or bad. I missed writing as I used to do it quite a bit when I was in high school. Unfortunately, whenever I'd write in the past, it was usually followed by a deep depression which was always hard for me to come out from. So for years, I've been a little scared to pick up a pen. I've had an incredible urging for the last year or so to release some creativity and haven't been able to find my outlet because I didn't want to fall into depression, but it is actually helping me this time around. Maybe I'll pick up where I left off on the book that I was writing years ago. Never know - you may see me on the best sellers list. What a dream!!

Spoutings...

Everything feels so surreal
The air thick with regrets.
Walking through this haze
I feel a sense of dread.
Where do I go from here?
Fear builds as doubt comes in
This life is not mine now
The end of the road seems so close
Is this where I get off?

Fluttering wings of the Tooth Fairy

Before I've even had a chance to post that my daughter lost her first tooth, she goes and loses another. Let me correct that, she grabbed her tooth, wiggled and yanked until it came out. That was my daughter, little Miss Priss that won't let you pull off a bandage because she's afraid it'll hurt. Looking at her tooth made me realize one thing - maybe we're not doing too good a job at brushing those teeth.

Remembering How to Love

I saw a sign on a church yesterday. Normally the signs you tend to see in my neck of the woods tend to be geared toward hell and damnation, but this one was different and got me thinking. It said "Love like this is your only chance". This got me thinking about my relationship. I've been married almost 8 years (as of April 7th) and I know that things aren't the same as they used to be. We've got 2 kids and we're both working. We pick up the kids from daycare and get home, fix dinner, sit and eat, get the kids in bed - next you know, it's 8pm and we haven't even sat down and relaxed and have barely spoken to each other. How sad? We plan on spending the rest of our lives together, yet we hardly manage to make time for each other. So, my new goal is to make time for my husband, give us the attention we deserve and to make sure that my husband really knows how much I love him and appreciate him.
